Funeral services for Mr. George Gayden Smith, 85, of Bastrop, LA formerly of McComb, MS, will be held at 2 PM Friday, January 30, 2009 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Benge and Rev. Ramon Warren officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 11 AM until 2 PM service time. Burial is scheduled for 11 AM Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Hollywood Cemetery, McComb, MS. Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Morehouse General Hospital. He retired from J.C. Penney after serving thirty-two years as manager in Bastrop. Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S.A. Air Corp as a gunner on a B-24. He participated in 55 missions in the South Pacific. He is preceded in death by one sister, Doris Morgan; one brother, Gardner Smith and one grandson, Charles Gayden Herzog. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Sue Livingston Smith; daughter, Gay and husband Dr. Michael Orlando of Batesville, AR; son, Clark Gayden Smith of Rockford, IL; grandson, Nicholas Herzog and wife Kelli; two great grandsons, Colin and Cayden Herzog; sister, Miriam Lyons and husband Billy of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law, Jim Livingston of Sterlington, LA; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. His family wishes to thank Dr. Carter Cox for his medical care for many years. Also, a special thanks for the care he recieved at Morehouse General Hospital, Bastrop Rehab and Cherry Ridge Guest Care and Rehab. The care and concern is deeply appreciated. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 222 S. Washington St., Bastrop, LA 71220.
