Funeral services for Mr. D.W. Thomas, Jr., age 83, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Cal Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas, a retired dirt contractor, member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Morehouse General Hospital. He was a past member of the Morehouse Parish Police Jury with 34 years of service, a charter member of the Barak Shriner's Club, 32 degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and 58 year member of the Blue Lodge in Minden, LA. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Thomas; three daughters, Dr. Jennifer Eubanks and husband Dr. Robert Eubanks of Madison, MS., Lynda Gates and husband First Lieutenant Joshua Gates of Milton, FL, Donna Smith and husband Jimmy of Sterlington, LA; son, D.W. Thomas III and wife Shelia of Monroe, LA; seven grandchildren, Alexis Cain, Shaun Johnson, Reagan Johnson, Chelsea Thomas, Leslie Thomas, Lauren Thomas, Thomas Pile; two expected grandchildren; three great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Dolphus Waddie Thomas and Lois Powell Thomas; sisters, Barbara Thomas Sugg and Jean Thomas Watson. Serving as pallbearers are Earl Sanford, Jack Cockrell, Chuck Willis, Mike Wooden, Cecil Sims, Douglas Ramer, Harry Reese and Charles Franklin. Honorary pallbearers are: past and present members of the Morehouse Parish Police Jury, Dr. Carter Cox, Jr., and Frank Martin.
