Obituary of Wanda Wylie Cathey

Funeral services for Wanda Wylie Cathey, age 78, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Allan Eppinette officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove South Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Cathey, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Morehouse General Hospital. She was a retired Payless Shoe store manager and DE supervisor, and a member of Riverside Baptist Church. As an Army wife and mother of six former military men, she was fiercely independent. So it seems only fitting that her death occured on Independence Day. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lavaughn D. "Fuzz" Cathey; parents, Stewart W. Wylie and Nettie A. Dixon Wylie; and six siblings. She is survived by six sons, Ron Cathey and wife Vivian of Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, Larry Cathey and wife Stacey of Woodside, CA, Stewart Cathey and wife Donna of North Monroe, LA, Lavaughn "Sonny" Cathey, Jr. and wife Evelyn of Mandeville, LA, Lowell "Wayne" Cathey and companion Tonya Musgrave of Sterlington, LA, Chris Cathey of Wrightwood, CA; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Audrey Fife of Bastrop, LA and Wilamena Wylie of Vidor, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Her sons will serve as pallbearers and her grandsons will be honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Lyon for rendering exemplary medical care with extraordinary compassion.
