Obituary of Betty J. "Lou" Colson Pullen

Betty Pullen was a resident of Bastrop from 1978 to 1997 and a resident of Oak Grove, Louisiana since 1997. She passed away June 30, 2009 at Morehouse General Hospital. She was a resident of The Oak Woods Home for the Elderly where she organized and created many opportunities for the residents and community to participate in various patriotic activities to support our military troops and veterans. She was very active in veteran charitable organizations dedicating many years of service to our veterans. She was a member of the Am Vets Post 66 in Monroe, the Veterans of Foreign War in Bastrop and WOTM Lodge of Oak Grove. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served 3 years as Unit 51 President, 5 years as President for Unit 53, Oak Grove, 7 years as the 5th District President and 8 years as the V.A.V.S. Representative for the American Legion at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, Monroe. She will always be remembered for her service to God and country. She hoped everyone would always remember our veterans. Betty is a Louisiana Registry Donor and her wishes were to be cremated. At her request, in lieu of flowers, all donations should be sent to the American Legion Auxiliary, 1885 Wooddale Blvd., Ste. 1100, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806, ear-marked for Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, Monroe, Louisiana. A memorial service will take place in honor of Betty for friends and family, 4 pm, July 10, 2009 at The Oak Woods Home for the Elderly, Mer Rouge, Louisiana. Betty leaves behind one sister, Mary Helen Frost of Bastrop, niece Vivian and husband Cecil Nall, her children Chris Uptigrove wife, Shayna, son Grayson of Houston, Colby Uptigrove of Atlanta, Mallory Uptigrove and her husband Clay Barnett of Atlanta, GA, niece Diane and husband Jackie Rosenberg, children Asher, Leah and Ariel Rosenberg of Monroe, nephew Jack Jr. and wife Faye Frost of Houston, Texas, child Crystal Frost of New Orleans, Louisiana, nephew Gene Adrain and wife Teresa Frost, children Eric Scarborough of Texas, Chelsea Frost of West Monroe and Elizabeth Robinson of Alvin, Texas, step-daughter Sharon Dailey, step grandson Steve Conn of Birmingham, Alabama and first cousin and best friend Dorothy Gail Williams, Oak Ridge, Louisiana. She also leaves behind the love of her life and longtime companion Bobby G. Burch and his family, daughter Vicki and husband Mike Jordan, child Caitlyn Jordan, daughter Melissa, children Dusty and Kelsey Schrock, daughter Brenda and husband Kevin, children Elizabeth and Zachary LaCroix, son Phillip and wife Wanda, children Lance, Brandon, Megan Burch, son Bobby Jr. and wife Brenda, child Jamie Burch, son James and wife Patty, children Clay, Ashley and Kacey Burch also a very special and close friend Lucille Burch and her family and a dear lifetime friend Marie Sebren, Bastrop, Louisiana. Betty loved to write verse, she left behind this for family and friends:" Remember there are windows in the floor of Heaven and I'll be watching over you." This was written by Betty prior to her death and in her memory she hopes you will please remember our veterans.
