Obituary of Mattie Louise Harper Savage

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Louise Harper Savage, age 92, will be held Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Benge, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Savage, a lifelong resident of Collinston and a homemaker, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Glenwood Medical Center. She was a member of Reily Memorial United Methodist Church, a charter member of Collinston Garden Club, and a recipient of the Circle of Roses Award from the Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs. Mrs. Savage is preceded in death by her husband, Jerd Savage; two granddaughters, Sandy Lovin, Laura Botts; parents, William Harper and Nora Harper; and two sisters, Frances Dugas, and Velma Hinton. Mrs. Savage is survived by four daughters, Patricia Ann Handy of Collinston, Norma Louise Jeter of E. Peoria, IL, Carolyn Pipes of Collinston, Deborah Hightower of Collinston; one son, William E. "Buddy" Savage of Collinston; one sister, Willie Harper Roberts of Alto, LA; seventeen grandchildren, Biff Handy, John Handy, William Handy, Bill Jeter, Katy Short, Elizabeth Veuleman, Becky Naff, Scott Nicolle, Matt Nicolle, Jeff Nicolle, Chesslye Sanson, Lane Pipes, Bill Savage, Leslie Fugate, Dee Tubbs, Jamie Archibald, Mem Beebe; thirty-six great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 25, 2009 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
