Funeral Services for Mr. Ted Woodrow Jones, 92 of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in Bartholomew cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones, a member of the First Church of God passed away Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care. He was a member of the Mt. Gerzim Masonic Lodge, a charter member of the Barrak Shriners, and member of the Elkaruba. Mr. Jones retired after 43 years of service with International Paper Company as a millwright and 21 years of service with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's office as a jailer and deputy. He was the oldest jailer in the state and the inmates once pooled their money to buy him a plaque. He is also the only jailer to recieve such an award. Mr. Jones was selected for the National Hero of the Day award on the CBS Morning Show when he was 88 years old.
He is survived by three daughters, Melva Harvey and husband Eddie of Ruston, LA, Jo Ann Grimes and husband Markham of Bastrop, LA, Debbie Keene of Bastrop, LA; two sons, John T. Jones and wife B.G. of Houston, TX, James M. Jones and wife Charlotte of Monroe, LA; eleven grandchildren, Terri Johnston, Lori Kaiser, Ted Grimes, Mitch Grimes, Mark Grimes, Kathie Walker, Sherri White, Eric Jones, Scotty Jones, David Jones and Renee Boudreaux and eighteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his wife Edys W. Jones.
Serving as pallbearers are members of the Mt. Gerzim Masonic Lodge.
Honorary pallbearers are the employees of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2006 from 10 a.m. until Noon at Golden Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
