Obituary of Sr. George

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Harry George, Sr., age 79, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2008 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. George, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Friday, August 21, 2009 at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly in Mer Rouge. He was retired from International Paper Company where he worked as a mechanical engineer. Mr. George had also been employed by Boeing and was assigned to NASA to work on the Saturn V Rocket Project. He was also a former member of the Kansas National Guard. Mr. George is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara George; father, Edward Piercy George, Sr.; mother, Neva George; brother, Edward Piercy George, Jr. and his wife Betty; and sister, Elizabeth George. He is survived by four children, Robert Harry George, Jr. and wife Ura Dell of Mer Rouge, Rebecca Smith and husband Terry of Mer Rouge, Gregory Grimes George of Bastrop, Stephen Edward George of Remsen, Iowa; three siblings, Tom George and wife Rose Marie of Shreveport, William George and wife Dorothy Ann of Bastrop, Carolyn Lucas and husband Max of Bastrop; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
