Obituary of Milton E. Wilks

Funeral services for Mr. Milton E. Wilks, 94, of Shawnee, OK., formerly of Bastrop will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Mr. Wilks passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Golden Rule Nursing Home in Shawnee, OK. Milton was born to Frank and Martha Wilks on December 11, 1911 in Hilly, LA. Milton attended Hilly schools and graduated from Ruston High School. Milton also attended Louisiana Tech where he ran track and received his BS from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana Lafayette). He married Bernice Thompson April 16, 1939 in Monroe, La. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and played in the Navy Band. Milton was also a member of the Rotary Club in Bastrop. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and taught sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Bastrop. He was also County Supervisor for the Farmer's Home Administration, USDA in Morehouse Parish. After retirement he worked for Keith-Babb Auctioneers and was a farm appraiser. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop. Survivors of Milton include the following: wife, Bernice Wilks; one son and daughter in law, Tom and Jackie Wilks of Shawnee, OK; two grandsons and daughter in law, David Wilks of Norman, OK, Bryan and Courtney Wilks of Jenks, OK; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Baptist University Scholarship fund for track in memory of Milton Wilks. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Golden Funeral Home.
