Obituary of Newell "Monroe" Johnston

Funeral services for Mr. Newell "Monroe" Johnston are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Garry Massey officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Johnston, age 56 and a resident of Bastrop, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center. He was a professional appliance technician for Lowery Furniture and Appliance in Bastrop and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father, Newell Elmo Johnston, and two sisters, Stella McKoin and Evelyn Stanley. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Johnston of Bastrop, LA; mother, Gladys Johnston of Bastrop, LA; three sons, Anthony Johnston of Bastrop, LA, Harley Johnston of Bastrop, LA, Corey Johnston of Arlington, TX; two daughters, Angie Johnston of Bastrop, LA, Candice Johnston of Eros, LA; sister, Gloria Ward and husband Ken of Baton Rouge, LA; and four grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Eppinette, Chad Ward, George Humphrey, Zac Robertson, John Harris, and David Martin. Honorary pallbearer will be Timothy Coker.
