A memorial service for Billie Floe Rouse Haynes, 92, of Bastrop, has been scheduled for 12 PM Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bastrop. She passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Morehouse General Hospital.
Ms. Haynes graduated from State Teacher's College in Livingston, AL with honors, and taught in Waynesboro, Monticello, and Moss Point, MS. On Christmas Day, 1938, she married Chatten Richard Haynes, who was superintendent of the bleach plant of International Paper Co. in Moss Point, MS. they lived in Springhill, LA for ten years and two of their children were born there. After a brief stay in Camden, AR, Chat was sent to Moss Point as mill manager. Their third child was born during the five year stay. Chat was transfered to the Division Office in 1955 and they lived there until 1965. Their next residence in Camden, lasted five years and then Chat came to Bastrop as Manager of the Louisiana Mill. He retired in 1977 and passed away September 20, 1994.
Ms. Billie Floe is survived by, two daughters, Maria McEwen Haynes of Albuquerque, NM, Rosalind Haynes Ewalt & husband Mike of Seagoville, TX; a son, Chatten Richard Haynes, Jr. of Bastrop; and a grandson, John Chatten Ewalt, of Tempe, AZ.
Ms. Haynes served as president of the Women's Organization of her church in Camden, AR and in Bastrop; a chairperson of the Division of Women's Concerns and on the Board of Women's Work of the PCUS. While living in Camden, she became president of the Conifer Girl Scout Council in Texarkana, AR and on the board of the Silver Waters Council. She also served as editor of her local church's news letter for a number of years.
