Funeral services for Kathryn Farmer Knight, 92, of Monroe, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home Bastrop, Louisiana, with the Rev. Terry Mims and her grandson, the Rev. Bruce Knight, officiating. Interment will follow at the New Winnsboro Cemetery, in Winnsboro, LA.
Kathryn, known by her friends as Kat, was born in Baskin, LA on April 30, 1917. She passed from this world at St. Frances Hospital in Monroe on Sunday morning, November 22, 2009.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church of Monroe, LA and a charter member of White Avenue Baptist Church of Bastrop, LA. Kathryn had a deep faith and love for Jesus, and taught Sunday School classes for over 45 years. She read her Bible daily, and always included a scripture in any note or letter that she wrote. She married the love of her heart, Emmitt C. Knight on March 23, 1940. She remained a homemaker all of her life, and felt that though it does not have much glory and there is a lot of grit and grime, there is no greater place of ministry, position, or power than that of a mother. Kathryn was a well respected member of the community and loved doing for others. She was a loyal worker at the voting poles in Bastrop every voting day. She was a strength to her family and her presence will be greatly missed on this earth, but her legacy will live on in our hearts and fill our souls. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Emmitt C. Knight, 2 grandsons, Bryan Knight and Mason Griggs, a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Knight, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her son, Tim Knight of Monroe, LA, her son, Terry Knight and wife Barbara of Monroe, LA, grandsons Brad Knight and wife Ginny of Charlotte, NC, Keith Knight of Fairbanks, LA, Paul Knight and wife Lynette of Swartz, LA, Rev. Bruce Knight and wife Christianne of Williston, ND, Andy Griggs and wife Renee of Nashville, TN, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brad Knight, Keith Knight, Paul Knight, Bruce Knight, Mike Smith, and Fred Cheeks. Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons of Emanuel Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
