Funeral services for Mrs. Lois McDowell Harrelson, age 85, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Bastrop with Rev. Mark Benge officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Monday at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Elizabethtown, NC.
Mrs. Harrelson, a resident of Bastrop and homemaker, passed away Monday, December 1, 2009 in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women's Organization, and a member of the church choir. Mrs. Harrelson was commonly known as "The Banana Lady", due to her weekly visits to area nursing homes delivering bananas and cookies to residents.
She is preceded in death by her husband, McLeod Harrelson; sister, Vivian McDowell; and parents, John A. & Lois M. McDowell.
Mrs. Harrelson is survived by three sons, John A. Harrelson & wife Bethany of Dayton, TX, Dr. Gary B. Harrelson & wife Lisa of Opelika, AL, Paul M. Harrelson & Sanda of Birmingham, AL; two sisters, Jean Sanderson of Jackson, TN, Carolyn Walters of Union Springs, NY; five grandchildren, John Harrelson, Logan Harrelson, Caleb Harrelson, Alex Harrelson, Whitt Harrelson; and great grandchild, Alexander T. Harrelson.
