Obituary of Elbert "Bert" Hightower

Funeral services for Elbert "Bert" Hightower, 84, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Ramon Warren officiating. Visitation will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Causey Cemetery. Mr. Hightower was born October 13, 1925 in Crossett, AR, and passed away January 25, 2010, at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly in Mer Rouge. He is preceded in death by his wife, Syble F. Hightower; his parents, Henry and Pearl Osbon Hightower; and brother, James H. Hightower. Survivors include two brothers, Travis Don Hightower of Bastrop and Tommy Hightower and wife Ida of Rison, AR; two sisters, Marie H. Crain and husband Louis LaVon and Rozel H. Arant and husband Charles of Bastrop. Other survivors are nieces Linda H. Cullom and Donna H. Woodson, Texarkana, TX, Kem A. Schultz, Houston, TX, and Monica C. Riggin, Bastrop; nephews, James D. Hightower, Hua Hin, Thailand, and Tim A. Arant, Orange Beach, AL. Mr. Hightower was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served two separate terms in the U.S. Navy as a Signalman Quartermaster. He was a retired construction worker, with many years of experience as an industrial surveyor and Party Chief. He held memberships in the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and VFW. He was also a member of South Side Baptist Church.
