Graveside services for Robert "Bob" Bennett, 80, of Bastrop, LA will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Justin Akers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Golden Funeral Home. Robert "Bob" E. Bennett, surrounded by his wife and family, passed away on January 28, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Bob, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on June 4, 1929 in Richland Parish to P.A. and Lucy Bennett. He was an architectual draftsman and farmer by trade who loved hunting and fishing. He was of Baptist faith and had been a member of Somer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA where he was baptized. Mr. Bennett was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, P.A. and Lucy Bennett; three brothers, P.A. Bennett, Jr., Steven Daniel Bennett, Edward Bennett; and one great-grandson, Bryce Conner Dupree. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nedra Bennett; two daughters, Deborah Aldridge and husband Cliff of Bastrop, LA, Dianne Starkey and husband Jim of Bastrop, LA; two grandsons, Brandon Dupree and wife Christin of Ft. Worth, TX, Troy Welch and wife Melody of Gulfport, MS; great-grandchildren, Brant Dupree of Ft. Worth, TX, Brandon, Ashley, Billy, Cody and Zachary of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Louise Morgan of Rayville, LA, Gloria Mendoza and husband Tony of Torrington, WY; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a "Special Thank You" to his nurses and aids at Lagniappe Healthcare for the excellent care given to him during his stay.
