Obituary of Opal Freeland Owens

Opal Freeland Owens, 86, died March 9, 2010, with her family by her side at Cherry Ridge Guest Care, in Bastrop, LA.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 12, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Bastrop, LA. The funeral will be Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. L.H. McCollough and Rev. Tim Post officiating. Immediately following the service, she will be laid to rest at the Stevenson Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mrs. Owens (Momma, Mamaw), was born April 27, 1923, in Bastrop, LA to Robert Lee and Alberta Stevenson. She was a retired nursing assistant for Schumpert Hospital and an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her life reflected that. Although we are sorry not to have her here among us, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is at peace in the arms of the Lord.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her sisters, Jessie Whitehead Bryan and Agnes David Bryan both of Bastrop, LA; daughters, Linda Freeland Young of Shreveport, LA, Gwen Freeland Howe of Bastrop, LA; grandchildren, Jamie Slay, Timothy Harrison, Stacy Harrison, Lisa Benward, Mylinda Knight, Kevin West, Jerry Freeland, Eddie Lee Freeland, Steven Freeland, Tracy Freeland, Lisa Blankenship, Christina Dasard; great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husbands, Eddie Lee Freeland and Grady Owens; brothers, Robert Stevenson and Thomas Stevenson and a son, Jerry Freeland.
Serving as pallbearers are: Dexter Bryan, Glen Bryan, Acie Orr, Timothy Harrison, Stacey Harrison and Doug Slay.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses at Premier Hospice, Mary, Cindy and Karen. We would also like to thank the staff at Cherry Ridge Guest Care.
