Obituary of Nova Helen Jenkins Nelson

Funeral services for Mrs. Nova Helen Jenkins Nelson, age 87, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Bartholomew Methodist Church with Rev. Stewart Sherman and Brett Pickering officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Nelson passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 10, 2010 surrounded by her family. She had been a resident of Morehouse Parish for most of her life. She was a retired food service employee for the Morehouse Parish School System. Mrs. Nelson accepted Christ at the age of five. She was a long-time member of Bartholomew Methodist Church where she served as a church officer, secretary treasurer, and song leader. She will be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Noble William Nelson; brother, Raymond Robinson Jenkins; and parents, Gertrude and Neal Jenkins. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Shirley Nelson Foote and husband Jeff Foote, Sr. of Hamburg, AR; three sisters, Myrtle Lou Kerico of Lehigh Acres, FL, Ida Mae Roper of Mer Rouge, LA, Vera Lee Hedges of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Bulloch, Eldred Scoggins, and Johnny Hattaway. Memorial contributions may be made to Bartholomew Methodist Church.
