Obituary of Ruby Lee Black Jones

Ruby Lee Black Jones made her transition from this earthly life on Monday, March 29, 2010 at Southern Oaks Home in Shreveport where she has been a resident for over four years. She recently passed her 97th birthday, having been born on October 28, 1912. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herschell Jones and eleven brothers and sisters and many other relatives and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Jones Day of Shreveport; three grandchildren, Julie M. Day of Shreveport, Shawn Day and his wife Kelley of Shreveport, and Neal Day and his wife Tammy of Austin, Texas. Great-grandchildren include Ashley Parker and her husband Will of North Carolina, Jennifer, Molly and Emily Day of Austin, Texas, and Stefan and Colin Day of Shreveport. Two great-great-grandchildren are Jaymes and Baily Ann Parker of North Carolina. Other survivors include a host of nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends whose lives were influenced by "Ruby"....."Miss Ruby".....or "Aunt Ruby."
Ruby is a past Worthy Matron of the Sunny South Order of Eastern Star and was an early member of the Cherry Ridge Baptist Church. She was the 20th member to be accepted into the church's membership. She was an active flower and vegetable gardener and participated in the Home Demonstration Club and entered canned goods, garments and crafts in the Morehouse Parish Fair.
Ruby will be remembered for her devotion, loving nature and readiness to help others.
Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and the service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
