Funeral services for George R. King, Jr., of Bastrop, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Vollmar and Dr. Ron Kitchens officiating. Interment will follow at the Mer Rouge Cemetery. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. George R. King, Jr. was born on June 20, 1925 in Athens, LA to George Robert King, Sr. and Maggie Lou Walker King. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, W.P. King, Clifford Walker King; and brother-in-law, George Bowe. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Patricia Hartman King; three children, Patricia King Kitchens and husband Rev. Joe Kitchens of Waldren, AR, George "Bobby" R. King, III and wife Debra Carter King of Minden, LA, and Cynthia T. King of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Dr. Ronald Andrew Kitchens and wife Amy of Sandy Hook, MS, Robin King Rayner and husband Scotty of Minden, LA, and Hannah King of Longview, TX; three great grandchildren, John Clayton Kitchens, Joy Catherine Kitchens, and one on the way Taylor Jordan Rayner; sister, Barbara Ann Bowe of Mer Rouge, LA; and brother-in-law, Harold Hartman of Bastrop, LA. Mr. King was a World War II Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Doyen. He was a member of the St. Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 256 and Past Master. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mer Rouge Chapter 148. Currently he was a member of the Walker-George Masonic Lodge of Swartz, LA. Mr. King was also a past member of the Monroe Commandery No. 7 Knights Templar. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill King, Billy King, Larry King, Sr., Larry King, Jr., George Bowe, Jr., David Bowe, and Steve Bowe. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in honor of Mr. King be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Masonic Children's Home in Alexandria, LA, or a charity of their choice.
