Obituary of Mary Louise Gregory Matheny

Graveside services for Mary Louise Gregory Matheny, 79, will be Friday, May 7, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop, LA. with Waymon Swain and Joe Nichols officiating. Mrs. Matheny was born January 11, 1931 in Mer Rouge, LA and passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at her home in Bastrop. Mrs. Matheny was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Carrie Gregory; her sisters, Vera Wilson, Dora Matheny, and Dorothy Stokes; her brothers, Bill, Johnny, Jimmy, and Roy Gregory, and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hairston. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, William Madison Matheny of Bastrop; her daughters, Cynthia Carnes and husband Wally of Murfreesboro, TN, Donna White and husband Bryan of Bastrop, LA, Susan James and husband Gordon of West Monroe, LA, Kathy Grieb and husband Allen of Dallas, TX; her son, William Scott Matheny of Bastrop, LA; her sister, Ellen Gregory; her brothers, Guy Gregory, Sam Gregory, Jr., Thomas Richard Gregory; her grandchildren, Nicol Garrett, Jennifer Polk, Anna Zeigler, Aaron Grieb, Jessica James, Austin Grieb, Zachary White, Marshall Matheny, and Jacob Matheny; and her great grandchildren, Ericka and Evan Garrett and Marykate Elizabeth Polk. Mrs. Matheny was a member of Central Church of Christ in Bastrop. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In the years before her health declined she spent a great deal of time cooking for her family and will be remembered standing in her kitchen, at the stove, with a smile on her face. The family wishes to thank Premier Hospice of Bastrop, Fritzie Buffington, Emily Wallace, Peggy Skains, Vickie Gregory, Mary Sanders, Mary Ellen Bowen and Dr. Cox. Bryan White, Zachary White, Allen Grieb, Aaron Grieb, Austin Grieb, and Gordon James will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
