Wilbert Calhoun was born October 15, 1922 and passed away June 16, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Parks Calhoun and his son, Sammie Calhoun. He also was preceded by several sisters and brothers, Norma Avary, Lloyd (Snow) Calhoun, Billie Calhoun, and infant siblings, T.J., Audrey, and Dovie and one granddaughter, Rachel Ferguson. His parents were Sam and Annie Calhoun. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and John Book. He also has two surviving sisters, Susie Brewster Williams and Dean Daughdrill and her husband Charles. "Pop" was blessed with five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. They are Angela Calhoun and her son, Ravi; Robert Bullock, his wife Sue, and their children, Kimberly and Aaron; Andrew Calhoun and his wife Alana, and their children, Molly, Ben, Jacob, and Sophia; Jana Bullock Jones, her husband Billie, and their child, Natalie; Suzanne Bullock DeSantiago and her husband, and their daughters, Katie, Jasmine, and Megan. Mr. Calhoun was an electronic technician and for many years owned a television repair shop in Bastrop. He had many talents and enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, and cooking. Mr. Calhoun was especially proud that he had served in the Army, and as a teen, the Civilian Conservation Corp and the National Youth Organization. (These were programs organized during the Depression to put young men and women to work.) A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Please make memorials to the Humane Society to honor his love for animals or to the Morehouse Parish Library to honor his love of reading in lieu of flowers.
