Obituary of Markham W. Grimes

Funeral services for Markham W. Grimes, age 83, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Allan Eppinette and Pastor Terry Middlebrooks officiating. Interment will follow in Bartholomew Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Grimes, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010. He was retired from the Bastrop Fire Department with 37 years of service and was one of the founders of the Fire Union Local 1358. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Grimes enjoyed buying and restoring John Deere tractors. He loved his dogs, Jazz and Zoey, and liked helping others in his position as a public servant.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Firby A. Grimes; brothers, Fred Grimes, Wayne Grimes, twin-brother, Maurice Grimes; and sisters, Rhea Watkins and Todd Ray.
Mr. Grimes is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Grimes; daughter, Kathie Walker and husband Steve of Bastrop; three sons, Mark Grimes and wife Pat of Waynesboro, PA, Ted Grimes and wife Terri of Bastrop, LA, Mitch Grimes and wife Julie of Shreveport, LA; six grandchildren, Mark Grimes III, Jeremy Grimes, Jordan Grimes, Cesli Grimes, Carli Jo Grimes, Macie Walker; and one great grandchild, Taylor Ann Grimes.
Serving as pallbearers are Steve Middlebrooks, Bruce Jenkins, Olen Haynes, James "Bubba" Boyd, Johnny Moreland, and Gerald Wallace. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Clint Netherland, Buddy Williams, George Perry, DeWayne Ray, Willie Charles McKee, Jerry Cain, Calvin Lusby, Frank Fleming, Bobby McDonald, Rodney Posey, James Murphy, Tommy Sowyers and Nub Martin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Morehouse Parish Humane Society.
