Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Memorial services following cremation will be held at a later date for Shirley F. Jones, 69, a native of Bastrop and a retired nurse. She was born in Bastrop and lived in Beekman and traveled the country in her younger years. She attended several schools in the Bastrop area including Beekman and East Side Elementary. She graduated from Terrebonne High in 1971 and in 1977 graduated practical nursing school in Houma, Louisiana. She worked as a nurse in various locations throughout the State in geriatric nursing care and private duty. She also resided in Lafayette, Louisiana for a great portion of her life where she specialized in cardiology nursing. After retiring from nursing, she assisted in the family business for many years. She is a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church of Bastrop where she tirelessly devoted the last years of her life. The deaths of her father Grady Jones, and her mother Agnes Olade precedes her, both formerly of Beekman. Her sister Frances J. Reynolds of Bastrop and her sons Stephen M. Long with his wife Cindy Long and James L. Brunet with his wife Sharon Brunet survive her. Her legacy will continue through Raquel Horky, granddaughter, and with her great grandson Jayden A. Horky, and grandson Christian Blaze Brunet. She is loved and will be cherished in our thoughts and through her surviving deeds and works. The family request in lieu of flowers that contributions be forwarded to the Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, where her mother was raised as a child.
