Funeral services for Mr. R.C. "Buddy" Anderson, age 85, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Central Church of Christ with Mr. Waymon Swain officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at Morehouse General Hospital. He was the only surviving founding member of Central Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Anderson worked most of his life in the automotive industry. He was a graduate of Bastrop High school and was All State first string quarterback before joining the U.S. Marine Corp. during WWII with the 5th Marine Division on first assault on Iwo Jima and Peleliu. Mr. Anderson enjoyed people and the political life. He was a Mason, a Shriner and spent much of his time reading and keeping up with current events on Fox News. He served two terms on the Morehouse Parish Police Jury and also served on the Board of Directors for Morehouse General Hospital. In addition to his special love for his family, Buddy will be remembered for the devoted love he shared with his community and friends. He was always available to make regular visits to the hospital or nursing homes and to serve as a pallbearer for his many friends. He has served as a pallbearer approximately 129 times.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 64 years, L'Vonne Kerrigan Anderson; daughters, Teresa Wood of Bastrop, LA, Angela Ryder and husband Todd of Bastrop, LA; son, Richard "Andy" Anderson of Bastrop, LA; brothers, Charles Anderson and wife Cheryl of Panama City, FL, David Anderson and wife Marie of Bastrop, LA; brother in-law, Tom Kerrigan and wife Lois of Wisner, LA; nine grandchildren, Mandy Anderson, Richard Anderson and wife Katie, David Marlatt and wife Katie, Megan Anderson, Courtney Murphy, Lauren Wood, Bailey Ryder, Aaron Wood, Kerrigan Wood; eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
He is preceded in death by parents, Dick and Pearl Bryan Anderson; brothers, Allison "Al" Anderson, Larche Anderson and four grandchildren, Nicole Anderson, Christopher Marlatt, Morgan Wroten and Meredith Wroten.
Serving as pallbearers are: Gary Wood, Richard Anderson, David Marlatt, Jr., David Anderson, Jr., Lindsey Anderson and Tom Kerrigan.
Honorary pallbearers are: Jerry Jones, Coleman Spann, Dr. Garey Ware, Felix Brown, Dr. Carter Cox, Judge Woodrow Wilson and Bruce Bush.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Swain Missionary Fund in care of Central Church of Christ.
