John Richard Robinson, 96, of Monroe, LA, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010. Mr. Robinson was born at Bastrop, LA to the union of Lige Robinson and Willie Jane Cameron Robinson on July 15, 1914. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Reatha Murphy Robinson. The two were married April 17, 1939, in Bastrop, LA. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ralph Robinson, Jewel Robinson, and his sister, Ida Robinson Jarvis.
Mr. Robinson was a member of the United States Air Force, serving from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. During his service, he rose to the rank of sergeant while participating in battles and campaigns in Eastern Mandates, New Guinea, the North Solomons, and the West Pacific. Mr. Robinson was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the West Pacific Theater Ribbon with four bronze battle stars, as well as the Victory Medal.
Mr. Robinson loved his family, his country, and most of all his best friend and beloved wife, Reatha Robinson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, LA, with Dr. Larry Stafford of First United Methodist Church of Monroe officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Crossett, AR. Visitation will be at Golden Funeral Home from 12 noon until service time on Saturday. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Monroe or to the charity of your choice.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Dawson, Ray Wilkerson, Wes Wilkerson, Barry Joiner, Richard Murphy, and Greg Murphy.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mr. Robinson's caretakers, Ruth Cooper and Phyllis Foster.
