Obituary of Beulah "Tootsie" Givens Burlew

Funeral services for Beulah "Tootsie" Givens Burlew, 81, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Ingram and Dr. L.H. McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home and Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
Ms. Burlew, a resident of Houma, LA, formerly of Bastrop, LA, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010. She was a retired Morehouse Parish school teacher and a member of First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Teachers Soroity "Kappa Kappa Iota" and served as an auxillary volunteer at Morehouse General Hospital.
Ms. Burlew is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Givens; brothers, C.L. Givens, Sr., Mack Givens, Billy Givens; and sisters, Mattie Alice Meredith, Sammy Waldrip, and Mary Hammond.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Burlew of Houma, LA; son, Sam Burlew and wife Cindy of Bastrop, LA; five grandchildren, Hale Burlew, Allyson Parker, Libby McDowell, Dona Burlew, Meredith Burlew; great grandson, Brody McDowell; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bert Givens, Corey Parker, Hale Burlew, Wayne Philley, Donald Gene Givens, Louis Givens, and William Givens. Honorary pallbearers are O.L. Harper, C.L. Givens, Jr., and Charles Martin.
