Obituary of Elberta Mae Lusby Watkins

Funeral services for Elberta Mae Lusby Watkins, 84, of Bastrop, La. will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Central Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop with Bro. Britt Dupree officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Grove South Cemetery on Old Monroe Rd. under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mrs. Watkins was born December 28, 1925 in Turkey Creek, La. to the union of Grundy Columbus and Mary Lita Launey Lusby and went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 6, 2010. She was a dedicated member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, an accomplished patchwork quilt maker, and a retired employee of Pippens-Eat-A-Bite. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watkins is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Willie Alton Watkins; sisters Ivy Bernice Rust, Martha Manila McFarlin and Margaret Ann Lusby; and brothers, Albert Leo, Charley Leon, Leroy Woodrow and Floyd Grundy Lusby.
Elberta is survived by her son Jimmy Wayne Watkins and wife Betty Slayter Watkins and grandchildren, Christy Watkins Quirk and husband Andrew, Jennifer Watkins McMillan, Melanie Watkins Jenks and husband Steve, and Jeremy Wayne Watkins and wife Melissa Hinson Watkins. Mrs. Watkins is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Marissa Duplissey, TaLyn Myers, Treylon Watkins, Alyssa Watkins, Rubie Quirk, Jayden Watkins, Williem Jenks, Aaden Jenks, and Izaiah Quirk.
Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Golden Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Steve Jenks, Andrew Quirk, Richard Book, Phillip McCready, Bobby Priest and Lynn Moore. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Watkins' grandson and great-grandsons.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Morehouse General Hospital for the kind and efficient care of their mother and grandmother during the last year. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Carter Cox for his unending care and concern for Mrs. Watkins as her physician and friend over the last 50 years and to the White Family for making Mrs. Watkins' service extra special with their gift of song.
