Obituary of James Cecil "Jim" Johnson

Funeral arrangements for James Cecil "Jim" Johnson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Myrick, Rev. Dale Jordan, and Jamie Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. at Goldens. Mr. Johnson, age 85 and a resident of Bastrop, passed away Friday, December 17, 2010. Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Johnson. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson was a retired school teacher and principal. At various times in his career he served as a football coach, a driver's education instructor, and a hunter's education teacher. Mr. Johnson obtained a bachelor's degree from Northeast Louisiana University and a master's degree from Lousiana State University. He was a Red Cross volunteer and loved to garden. He served in the U.S. Marine Reserves and was a Mason for over 51 years. He was a former deputy sheriff with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office. Mr. Johnson dedicated his life to serving the public and especially enjoyed working with children. He is survived by his daughters, Jamie Johnson Mitchell and husband Randall of Swartz, LA, Verna Lowery of Bastrop, LA; son, William Johnson and fiance Kim Stone of Bastrop, LA; special nephew, Ronald Stephen Rainwater of Swartz, LA; sister, Theta Horn of West Monroe, LA; twelve grandchildren, Michelle Carter, Brandy Sharbono, James "Daniel" Sharbono, Charles Sharbono and fiance Sarah Millirn; and twenty-nine great grandchildren.
