Funeral services for Mr. Winifred O. Day, Sr., age 85, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday December 23, 2006 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Beekman Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Day, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Wednesday December 20, 2006 at St. Francis North Medical Center. He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Pipe & Steam Fitters Union. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday School for many years. Mr. Day was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II with the Seabees. He is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Day. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Houston & husband Harry Acker of Bastrop; son, Winifred O. Day, Jr. & wife Beverly of Young Harris, GA; two sisters, Muriel Johnston & husband Howard of Shreveport, Katherine Lilly of Bastrop; three grandchildren, Neal Day & wife Tammy of Greenville, SC, Shawn Day & wife Kelley of Shreveport, Julie Day of Shreveport; and six great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Moore, Craig Oliphant, Johnny Hughes, John B. Talley Jr., Jerry Freeland and J.W. Landrum. Honorary pallbearers are Willis Freeland, Butch Freeland, Butch Musgrove, and members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. The family would like to express a special thank you to St. Francis North ICU nurses, doctors, and hospital staff. Memorial contributions may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home in Monroe, LA.
