View Video Tribute: Funeral services for Mr. Fred Erwin "Punk" Akers, 62, of Mer Rouge, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2007 at the Mer Rouge Baptist Church with Revs. Ron Vollmar and Cal Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Mer Rouge Cemtery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Akers, a powerhouse maintenance employee at International Paper Company, U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and member of Mer Rouge Baptist Church passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Morehouse General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Karen Elaine Akers; four sons, Fred Stefan Akers and wife Alison of Brenham, TX, George Foster Akers and wife Monica of Montgomery, AL, Erwin Thomas Akers and wife Kelly of Collinston, LA, Shawn Michael Akers of San Diego, CA; four sisters, Carol Ann Boyte and husband Larry of Monroe, LA, Dorothy Faustine Wilson and husband Ray of Oroville, WA, Faye Emily Risher and husband John of Bastrop, LA, Nancy Ellen Whatley and husband Ned of Carrollton, TX; brother, Dennis Moss Akers and wife Lynn of Collinston, LA; nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Kristyn, Jon Thomas, Carter, Clark and Julianna Akers, Adam Fabacher, Cameryn and Joshua Akers and a great granddaughter, Amy Nicole Akers. Mr. Akers is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Foster and Bernice Loraine Akers; sister, Betty Jean Gilly and a grandson, Aaron Akers. Serving as pallbearers are: Owen Hubbard, Bryan White, Ricky Curtis, Ricky Dew, Dell Murphy and Dennis Hughes. Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Golden Funeral Home.
