Graveside services for Dr. Carl White Stroud of Encinitas, CA will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday January 20, 2007 at Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Whitfield Stodghill officiating.
Dr. Stroud was born May 25, 1908 in Mer Rouge, LA and was taken home December 29, 2006. He grew up in Monroe, LA, graduated from Tulane Medical school and married Dr. Fay King of Shreveport. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the engineer corp during World War II and served in North Africa. He and his wife lived in Mercer Island, WA, and upon retiring moved to Rancho Santa Fe, CA, where he enjoyed tennis and running---up to 50-60 miles a week. He ran 8 mararthons including Honolulu, New York, and San Diego, winning many trophies. He made a world record for his age group (70-75) in San Diego and ran his last marathon in 1984 at age 78. He was a devoted enviromentalist with a great love of animals and birds while enjoying traveling, photography, music, and dancing.
Dr. Stroud was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Meta White Stroud. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Fay King Stroud, three daughters, Lynne Heacock & husband Jack of Encinitas, CA, Leigh Stroud of Encinitas, CA, Dr. Julia Meta Stroud of Woodinville, WA; and four grandchildren.
