Funeral services for Mr. James Murrell Orr, Sr., age 87, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Bastrop with Rev. Jim Ingram and Dr. L.H. McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Bastrop. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at Golden Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Orr, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Sunday February 4, 2007, at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe. He was an Army and Navy veteran of World War II, having served from 1940-1945. He was self employed from 1945 as a truck lessor before retiring in 1987. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Bastrop, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, and taught the five year old Sunday School class for 25 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth K. Orr; parents, M.V. & Virginia Orr; sister, Elizabeth Tarver; and brother, George N. Orr.
Mr. Orr is survived by his daughter, Ginni Burford & husband Lee of Monroe; two sons, James M. Orr, Jr. & wife Michelle of Fairhope, Al, David K. Orr & wife Phyllis of Annapolis, MD; two sisters, Virginia Ferguson of Bastrop, Nancy LeTard of Westlake, LA; nine grandchildren, Trey Orr, Erin Orr, Elizabeth Orr, Mindy Adams & husband Bryan, LeAnne Haley & husband Kendall, Ashley Murray & husband Patrick, Nikki Orr, Justin Orr, Casey Orr; two great grandchildren, Fisher Adams, Eileen Murray; numerous nieces & nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Adams, Kendall Haley, Patrick Murray, Justin Orr, Nelson Orr and Douglas Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ambassador Sunday School class.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
