Obituary of Mattie Frances Jones Spencer

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Frances Jones Spencer, 90, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at North Bastrop Church of God with Rev. David Sistrunk officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Spencer, a homemaker, devoted sunday school and nursery worker at Van Avenue Church of God (East Haven Church of God), passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care Center. She was born on August 2, 1916 in Oak Ridge, La. to parents, Harvey and Mattie Martha Porter Jones. She worked as a war plane riveter during WW II in Memphis, TN and later was employed at the bag plant in Bastrop. Mrs. Spencer is survived by two daughters, Patricia Magee and husband Cleve of Ruston, LA, Mable Owen and husband Billy of Slidell, LA; two sons, James M. Rodman and wife Teressa of Monroe, LA, Louis E. Rodman and wife Minnie Jo of Tyler, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Peggy Townsend, Donna Freeland, James Rodman,Jr., James Edward Rodman, Joey Trichell, Shane Trichell, Shelley Magee Farrell, Austin Magee, Debbie Smith, David Maddox, Bubba Hammock, Karen Sims, Sherry Murphy; twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, and family. She is preceded in death by her husband Dave A. Spencer; daughter, Frances Leola Rodman; grandsons, Jeremy Rodman, Butch Hammock; four sisters, Katie Ballentine, Billie Dunlap, Bell Thornton, Fanny Church; two brothers, Gene and Grady Jones. Grandsons and family members will be serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at North Bastrop Church of God.
