Funeral services for George A. Mayo, age 71, of New Orleans, formerly of Bastrop, will be held Monday April 25, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Dr. Vic Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Mayo was born in Jones, LA on July 2, 1939 and passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 following a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; father, Dan Phillip (Buck) Mayo; mother, Helen; sister, Verlene White; grandparents, Lillie Mae and William Phillip (Mack) Mayo.
George is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Meyers and husband Barry of New Orleans, LA; son, George Alton Mayo, Jr. of Slidell, LA; granddaughters, Melissa Meyers of New Orleans, LA Tori Glasgow of Tampa, FL; niece, Carla White and her children Brook and Brett Strange; two uncles, Mack Mayo and wife Virginia of Jacksonville, FL, George E. (Pete) Mayo of Bastrop, LA; aunt, Dorothy Blackman of Bastrop, LA; and many loving friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1 p.m. until time of service at Golden Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mack Mayo, Billy Hayman, Harry Mayo, Tommy Mayo, Darin Pruitt and Barry Meyers.
