Hilma Wells Shaw (Nannie)
Funeral services for Hilma Wells Shaw, 85, Mer Rouge, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Golden Funeral Home Chapel in Bastrop, with Bro. Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow at Mer Rouge Cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw was born November 1, 1925 in McGee, Mississippi and passed away, July 7, 2011, in Mer Rouge, LA. She moved to Mer Rouge in 1940 where she met the love of her life, James Berton Shaw, whom she married and raised three children. Mrs. Shaw taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Bonne Idee Methodist Church from 1944 through 1962. She was active in the 4-H Club teaching young people the art of Style & Design. Hilma was the owner of The Mer Rouge Dress Shop and after moving to Monroe, was employed at Field's. After retiring from Field's, Mrs. Shaw was "Nannie" to Kelsie and Hewitt Hall, Jarred and Anna Nichols, Ashley, Mathew and John David Eberts, Maddie Kay, Morgan, and John Mason Futch, and Anna Grace Norman.
Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Annie Wells; brothers, Homer Wells, Howard Wells, Johnny Wells; sister, Thelma Aldridge; her husband, James Berton Shaw in 1977, and her first grandson, Melvin Lee Akers in 1998.
Survivors include her children, Gary Shaw and wife Yanelia of Ruston, Pat (Patsy) Charpio and husband Don of Phoenix AZ; and Lynn Akers and husband Dennis of Sterlington; 5 grandchildren, Tammy Shaw, Chris Akers, Casey Charpio, Shelaine Murphy and Ashley Wheeler. She has 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Mae Stewart and husband Billy and brother, Clifton Wells, Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Casey Charpio, Chris Akers, Vance Shaw, Neal Stewart, Alan Carrel and Troy Davis.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9th at Golden Funeral Home.
