Obituary of Mona Dumas Brantley

Funeral services for Mona Dumas Brantley, age 73, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday June 21, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Bastrop, with Rev. Jim Ingram and Rev. Huey P. Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow in Crossroads Cemetery in Union Parish. Visitation will be held Wednesday June 20, 2007 at Golden Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Mrs. Brantley, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Monday June 18, 2007 at Morehouse General Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church and owner of Bastrop Beauty School since 1977. She was president, vice president and historian of the Louisiana Association of Cosmetology Schools and on the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Science. She was also a member of the Arc of Morehouse. Mrs. Brantley is preceded in death by husband, Jarward "Coot" Dumas; and parents, John David & Olivia Smith Brakefield. She is survived by her husband, C.C. Brantley; daughter, Marsha Lynn Dumas of Bastrop; son, C. David Dumas & wife Kathy of Minden; two brothers, Larry G. Brakefield & wife Bonnie of Choudrant, Michael D. Brakefield & wife Toni of Bastrop; two grandchildren, Benjamin David Dumas of Fairbanks, and Haley Dumas Powell of Bossier City. Serving as pallbearers will be Don Bell, David Brakefield, Todd Brakefield, Glenn Ham, R.N. Lanningham, Jr., Billy Ruth "Smokey" Puckett, Keith Riley, Guinn Sowell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult 4 Sunday School Class and the Bastrop Beauty School. Memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Mission c/o First Baptist Church, Bastrop, or to the Arc of Morehouse.
