Visitation for Imogene Peppers Courtney, 85, formerly of Bastrop, will be from 9A.M.-11 A.M Monday in the chapel at Golden Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will follow, at 11 A.M. Monday, with Waymon Swain officiating. There will be a graveside service for family, only, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Courtney died on August 19, 2011 in Salem, Missouri, where she had resided for the past four years.
She was the eighth child born to Jack and Tomie Telford Peppers, in Lockhart, LA, on September 18, 1925. She was married on October 3, 1942, to Harold Courtney, and to this union two daughters were born. The couple was married for fifty-nine years.
Mrs. Courtney valued the nurturing of Christian parents leading to her being a lifelong member of the church of Christ. She was also very proud of her Southern heritage. She was one of those tough WWII brides who displayed faith and courage when met with life's challenges. She took great pride in the twenty years she served as a volunteer at Morehouse General Hospital. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include daughter, Tomie Anderson of Salem, MO; dear brother, Edsel Peppers, Junction City, AR; granddaughter Necole Caldwell and husband Charlie, West Monroe, LA; grandson, Bradford Anderson, Longmont, CO; granddaughter Kristen Scott and husband Zach, Overland Park, KS; great-granddaughters Mackenzie Caldwell and Riley and Molly Scott. Special sister-in-law Jewell Wright of Monroe, LA and ten nieces and nephews also survive her.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold; daughter Jane Doughty; sisters Floy Cook, Elva Merritt, and Charlene Peppers; and brothers Joe, Rex, Earnest, and Pat Peppers.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Peppers, David Shelby, John Allen Courtney, Glen Hendricks, Coleman Spann, and Jim McConnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bradford Anderson, Ed Peppers, and Jonathan Hendricks.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Southern Christian Home of Morrilton, AR, Ronald McDonald House, or the Alzheimer's Association.
