Funeral services for Helen Lee Carter, age 92, of Bastrop, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2005 in the Golden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. David Chapman and Jeff May officiating. Interment will follow at the Carter - Nicholson Cemetery on Highway 139 South in Bastrop. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2005 at Goldens. Mrs. Carter passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Carter was retired from the Food Services Department of Morehouse Parish Schools where she worked at Southside Elementary School for many years. She was a former Sunday school teacher and member of White Avenue Baptist Church, a 1957 Worthy Matron of the Sunny South Chaper of the Order of the Eastern Star, a homemaker and an avid quilter. She is survived by three sons, Bill Carter and wife Becky of Bastrop, LA, Bob Carter and wife Jerri of Bastrop, LA and Tom Carter and wife Pat of Madison, AL; five grandchildren, Scott Carter and wife Debbie, Patricia Peyton, Lee Langrell and husband Marvin, Amy Ellison and husband Malcolm and 2nd Lieutenants David Carter and wife Amelia; seven great grandchildren, Seth Carter, Jake Carter, Sarah Liz Carter, Stephanie Mason and husband Brent, Maggie Langrell, Carter Ellison and Emmalee Ellison; great great grandson, Cameron Mason; and several loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by her parents, George F. and Mary Brown Daugherty; husband, Mayor A.P. "Fats" Carter; two sisters, Louise Clingan and Tommie Hoercher; three brothers, Phillip Daugherty, Leon Daugherty, Luther Daugherty and a daughter in-law, Jackie Carter. Pallbearers will be Scott Carter, Seth Carter, Jake Carter, Marvin Langrell, Malcolm Ellison, Brent Mason and David Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Carter Cox,Jr. and Dr. O.L. Tugwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
