Charles English Harkleroad of Mer Rouge passed away on February 23, 2005. A memorial service followed by a visitation time with the family will be held on Friday, February 25th at 4:00 pm at Golden Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Stowe Harbin assisted by Rev. Nick Farone with Jonathan Wiggins providing worship music. Mr. Harkleroad was preceded in death by his parents, A.G. Harkleroad and Geneva Hundley Harkleroad, his infant son Clark Andrew Harkleroad, and his sister Nancy Harkleroad Drane. He is survived by his wife Jean Clark Harkleroad of Mer Rouge, son Hundley Mayo Harkleroad and wife Jennifer of Stockbridge, GA, daughter Elizabeth Harkleroad McBee and husband Joel and grandson Asher Alexander McBee, all of Ft. Myers, FL, sister Janet Harkleroad Thompson and husband Bobby of Huntsville, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harkleroad was a past member and chairman of the Education Committee at Prairie View Academy where he worked tirelessly for over twenty years to recruit quality teachers for the school. He was the driving force behind the formation of the PVA Parents and Friends Club in the early 1980's. He was an active supporter of King's Camp, always helping in any way needed. Mr. Harkleroad was also a long time member and past chairman of the Mer Rouge Community Chest and served his country in the United States Air Force.
Typical of his generous and caring nature, Mr. Harkleroad had listed himself as an organ donor. He gave the gift of life to a waiting liver transplant recipient, the gift of sight to two corneal transplant recipients, and aid to countless others through tissue donation.
The Harkleroad family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Lyon, Dr. Allen Spires, and the ICU staff at Morehouse General Hospital for the competent and loving care provided to him. Their appreciation also goes out to the many friends who prayed and exhibited such love and concern for him and the family during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Christian Life Fellowship (for King's Camp), P.O. Box 335, Mer Rouge, LA, 71261, or to the Mer Rouge Community Chest through Mer Rouge State Bank.
