Obituary of Joan Marie Garland Bankston

Funeral services for Mrs. Joan Marie Garland Bankston, age 75, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday November 6, 2011 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Father Richard Norsworthy officiating. Interment will follow in Mer Rouge Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Bankston, a homemaker and resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Wednesday November 2, 2011 at Morehouse General Hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Morehouse Parish Fox Hunters Association. Mrs. Bankston enjoyed listening to her family and friends play country music, gardening, and working with her flowers. She was devoted to helping her family; they were her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Justin and Laura Garland; husband, Wayne Bankston; sister, Gayle Pilgrim and husband Bill; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Bankston; and grandson, Jeffery McKoin. Mrs. Bankston is survived by her daughter, Paddy Jo Blackard and husband Kent of Bastrop, LA; two sons, Jake Bankston and wife Karen of Bastrop, LA, Alan Bankston of Bastrop, LA; three sisters, Lauretta Cavalli and husband Steve, Linda Rush and husband Tom, Ruth Shortt and husband David; six brothers, David Garland, Justin Garland, Ray Garland and wife Charlotte, Jim Garland and wife Kathy, Dennis Garland and wife Liz, Joe Garland and wife Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Claire Billings and husband Darrin, Anna Tullos and husband Les, Jason Bankston and wife Ashley, Pat Moore, Will Blackard and wife Jessie, Cole Blackard; and four great grandchildren, Victoria Billings, Hannah Billings, Mason Tullos, and Grant Blackard. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Holland, Terry Tate, DeVohn Hayes, Penn "Buddy" Bankston, Jeremy Hogan, and Will Spires. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office Vest Fund.
