Funeral services for Mr. T.A. Rogers, Sr., 92, of Bastrop have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Hugh Yates officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Rogers, a retired employee of 42 years with International Paper Company passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care. He is survived by his wife of 65 1/2 years, Irene Pratt Rogers; two daughters, Carolyn Williams and husband Ron of West Monroe, LA, Nancy Rogers of Monroe, LA; son, Thomas Rogers and wife Marti of Sulpher, LA; three sisters, Eunice Sanderson of Alabama, Alma Wooderson and Frances Smith both of Texas; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Mr. Rogers was born September 1, 1912 near Bay Springs, MS to the late Lee Roy and Josephine Dunn Rogers. He is also preceded in death by two children, John Mark Rogers and Ellen Rogers Vines; five brothers and two sisters. Mr. Rogers served on the Morehouse Parish School Board for almost fifty years, the longest of anyone in the state. He also was a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church, a semi-pro boxer and coached Little League Baseball and Church League Softball in Bastrop for several years. He is a 1932 graduate of Rayville High School and the last survivor of the Rayville Hornet's State Champion football teams of 1929 and 1931. He was a much loved and appreciated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Pallbearers are: Bruce Jones, Stanley McWilliams, Paul Williams, Jason Rogers, Jack Cockrell and Britt Risinger. Honorary Pallbearers are: Leonard Jenkins, Jim Clark, Homer McDougle, O.L. Harper, Boots Farrar, Dick Revels, Elva Humphries, Don Higginbotham and Jimmy Perry. The family request that all memorials go to First Presbyterian Church or to the American Heart Association. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005 at Golden Funeral Home.
