Obituary of Steven Alan Walker

A memorial service commemorating the life of Steven Alan Walker will be held Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Bonita Road Baptist Church, Bastrop, LA. Mr. Walker, age 53, died on Saturday, December 24, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. The memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Keith Walker and Rev. Marty Black. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Steve Walker was born in Bastrop on November 13, 1958. He was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Sandra Turner Walker, and by his grandparents, John & Cumie Walker and J.W. & Gola Layton. He is survived by his parents, John M. & Mae Walker, a daughter, Amber Walker White, three grandchildren, Kaden Tharpe, Blair White, and Gavin Wyatt. He has two brothers, Doug Walker & wife Kathy, and Keith Walker & wife Pam, all of Bastrop. Nieces include Laura Pruitt & husband Michael of Oak Grove, LA, Melanie Roose & husband Robert of Savannah, GA and Joanna Walker of Bastrop, LA. Nephews include William Walker & wife Molly of Midland, TX and Kiley Walker of Bastrop, LA. He also has three great nieces, Caitlin Pruitt, Morgan Roose and Evie Walker and one great nephew, Layton Pruitt. Steve accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on March 3, 1968 at nine years of age. He was baptized and grew up as a member of White Avenue Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he had previously served as Children's Sunday School teacher, children's church leader and Sunday School Director. Steve had a special place in his heart for children and for the elderly. He loved his family and he was greatly loved by them. He also loved to spend time outdoors, riding motorcycles, and was an avid bass fisherman. At the time of his death, Steve worked as a truck driver for Fleetwood Transportation Services, Inc. Steve previously worked at the International Paper Company Bottling Plant on the Airport Road for many years. The family would like to express special thanks to the St. Joseph Hospice and to nurse Shannon for their excellent care during Steve's final days. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
