Funeral services for Mr. Sydney Lee Langston Jr. are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Langston, age 78 and resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe, LA. He was a retired International Paper Company employee with 42 years of service. Mr. Langston was a 1951 graduate of Collinston High school, a graduate of Northeast Louisiana State College and a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping. Mr. Langston was a family man and loved basketball and coaching baseball. He was a pitcher for the American Legion Bastrop Barons baseball team.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sydney Lee Langston Sr. and Birdie Doss Langston; four brothers, Homer Langston, Walter Langston, Leon Langston, Jack Langston; and two sisters, Margaret Irving and Dorothy Watson.
Mr. Langston is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Nichols Langston; daughter, Barbara Langston Parrott of Panama City Beach, FL; two sons, Mike Langston and wife Tracy of Calhoun, LA, Mark Alan Langston of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, Jeff Parott of Monroe, LA, Jared Parrott of Monroe, LA, Jennifer Parrott of Panama City Beach, FL, Lyndsey Langston of Calhoun, LA, Taylor Langston of Calhoun, LA; and three great grandchildren, Hailey Parrott, Jessica Parrott, and Emily Parrott, all of Decatur, AL.
Pallbearers will be; Jeff Parrott, Jared Parrott, Taylor Langston, Kenneth Langston, Brian Martin and Jarrod Jacobs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Langston, Jr., Russ Langston, Henry Langston and Lynn Langston.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cox, Morehouse General Hospital Nurses and Staff and Cornerstone Doctors and Staff for the care shown for Mr. Langston.
