Funeral services for Mrs. Mavis Elaine May Weeks, age 86, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Black officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bastrop, LA. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at Golden Funeral Home.
Mrs. Weeks, a homemaker and resident of Bastrop, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Irene May, and two brothers, Waylan May and Mervin May.
Mrs. Weeks enjoyed bowling and was a "Rosie the Riveter" in New Orleans during World War II.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ira Cecil Weeks; daughter, Glenda Cooper and husband David of Bastrop, LA; son, Gary Weeks and wife Jerilyn of Hot Springs, AR; two sisters, Doris Aulds of West Monroe, LA, Mardell Floyd of West Monroe, LA; brother, Crafton May of West Monroe, LA; four grandchildren, Todd Cooper of Bastrop, LA, Craig Cooper of Newnan, Georgia, Jason Weeks of Maumelle, AR, Dayton Weeks of Fayetteville, AR; three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Cherry Ridge Guest Care, Dr. Cox and staff, the nurses at Morehouse General Hospital, and caretaker Lisa Hughes.
