Funeral services for Mr. John Henry Pace, 85 of Bastrop, LA, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery in Bastrop, LA.
Mr. Pace passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Morehouse General Hospital. He was born in Mer Rouge, LA in the Bonne Idee community. Early in his life he joined the Navy and was a WWII combat veteran and served as a Boatswain's mate (Higgins boat operator) from 1943-1945. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. He was a retired mill worker and truck driver. Mr. Pace was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be truly missed by all that loved him.
Mr. Pace is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James and Gladys Naff Pace; brothers and sisters, Jesse James Pace, Jr., Emory Pace, Clyde Grogan, Pete Grogan, Robert L. Pace, Sr., Mildred Nixon, Alice Arant, Camille East, Joyce Clack; and one son, David Emory Pace.
Survivors include his spouse, Dottie Philley Pace; his children, Jonette Pace and companion Don Bryan of Taylor, AR, Emily Caler and husband Wilburn of Ashdown, AR, John Phillip Pace of Bastrop, LA, Glenda Wade and husband Wayne of Farmerville, LA, Judy Pace Hooker of Port Arthur, TX; grandchildren, Sabina Pace Watt and husband Brian of Monroe, LA, Magan Pace, Johnathan Pace, both of Edgewood, MD, Jacque Pace and husband Kevin Hutchinson of Ruston, LA, Jesse Pace of Ruston, LA, Tara Currence and husband Dennis of Ashdown, AR, Whitney Burns of Magnolia, AR, Lindsey Caler of Ashdown, AR, Chad Bryan and wife Leslie of Oklahoma City, OK, Brandon Bryan of Aspen, CO; several great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brodnax, William (Sugarfoot) Hammon, Jesse Pace, Bryan Pace, Mikey Barmore, and Brian Watt.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
