Obituary of Maggie Martin Slack

Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Martin Slack, age 88, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012, in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Don Slack and Rev. Jimmy Yocum officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Slack, a resident of Bastrop, LA, a retired nurse, retired from International Paper Company, Morehouse General Hospital, and Cherry Ridge Nursing Home, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care. Mrs. Slack was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, puzzles, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Slack is preceded in death by her husband, Johnie T. Slack; parents, Jesse M. and Lela I. Martin; son, Eugene Slack; daughter, Edna Ruth Cantrell; grandson, Matt Slack; four brothers; and three sisters. Mrs. Slack is survived by one daughter, Diane Walker and husband Warren of Bastrop, LA; three sons, David Slack of Bastrop, LA, Roy Slack and wife Ann of Lou Ann, AR, Don Slack of Mer Rouge, LA; one sister, Betty Houdibre of New Orleans, LA; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane Hogan, Theron Scott, Troy Cantrell, Mike Cantrell, Justin Orrels, and Danny Slack. Honorary pallbearer will be Dan Hindmon. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Gideons International. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. til 8 p.m. Saturday at Golden Funeral Home.
