Obituary of Velma C. Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Velma C. Smith, 102, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Winnsboro, LA) with Rev. Andy Myrick, Danny Chisholm and Kenneth Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the New Zion Cemetery. Mrs. Smith, a homemaker and member of Eastside Baptist Church (Rayville), passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Summerlin Lane Nursing Home. She is survived by four daughters, Marvel Nichols of Winnsboro, LA, Dorothy Chisholm of El Dorado, AR, Alice Rae Adcox and husband Cecil of Rayville, LA, Onnie Judkins and husband Harold of Monticello, AR; daughter in-law, Mae Dell Smith of Pensacola, FL; twelve grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Eugene Smith; son, William Denver Smith; three brothers and four sisters. Serving as pallbearers are: Nick Cassels, Matthew Stevens, Will Cheek, Gary Chisholm, Kenneth Smith and Danny Chisholm. Honorary pallbearers are: David Benson, Dale Johnson, Harold Judkins, Cecil Adcox, Matt Philley and Dennis Cassels. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Summerlin Lane Nursing Home and Hospice Care of Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at Golden Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
