Funeral services for Mr. Elmer D. Jones, 87, of Bastrop are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Myrick officiating. Interment will follow in Bartholomew Cemetery.
Mr. Jones, a retired superintendant from the State of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and member of Central Church of Christ, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007. He was a member of the Sunny South OES # 12 and the Mt. Gerizim Masonic Lodge # 54. Mr. Jones also served his country in the United States Army during WWII.
He is survived by his special friend, Louise Martin; two sisters, Rosie Harris of Shreveport, LA, Johnnie Lee Jones of Bastrop, LA; brother, Paul B. Jones and wife Faye of Bastrop, LA; two stepsons, Thomas W. Cullum and wife Betty Jo of Rayville, LA, Alan Ray Cullum of Lake Charles, LA; five step-grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Monnie Faye Cox of Bastrop, LA and LaWanda Johnston of Carthage, MS.
Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Hughes Jones and second wife, Wynonia J. Cullum Jones.
Pallbearers will be: Lance Norsworthy, Barry Jones, Bill Jones, Danny McGrew, Tommy Cullum and Michael Cullum.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Jim Webb, Frank Cooper and friends at the Morehouse Council on Aging.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 22, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
