Obituary of Lucian Eldridge Rawls

Funeral services for Lucian Eldridge "L.E." Rawls, 91, of Bastrop, will be 1:30 PM Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Golden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. JoAnn Sims officiating. Eulogies will be given by Rev. George Duerson and Lennon Strong. Interment will follow at Bartholomew Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Rawls died Friday, May 27, 2005 at Morehouse General Hospital. He was retired from International Paper Company as a millwright. Mr. Rawls was a longtime member of the Morehouse Parish Police Jury, a member of the Morehouse Parish Fox Hunter's Association, an active member of the Bartholomew Methodist Church, and caretaker of the church cemetery for many years. L.E. is preceded in death by his parents, Buck & Matilda Rawls; brothers & sisters, Menice Rawls, Nolan Rawls, Eunice Strong, and Edna Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Helen Yeldell Rawls; 2 daughters, Linda Kay Duerson & husband Rev. George A. Duerson of Metairie, LA, Diane Brown & husband William A. Brown of Bastrop; 3 sisters, Opal Rawls Yeldell of Bastrop, Uldene Rawls Russell of Bastrop, Norma Rawls Kelly of Bastrop; 3 grandchildren, Dr. Douglas Duerson & wife Sharon of Dothan, AL, Denise Duerson Sheffield & husband Joe of Katy, TX, Eric E. Brown & wife Ann of Bastrop, LA; 6 great grandchildren, Wesley and Claire Duerson, Jodi, Amber, Ashley, and Johnathon Sheffield and numerous nieces & nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be John D. Kelly, Brett Sims, Dr. Richard Russell, Meeks Strong, Lennon Strong, and Jeff Philley. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Hardgrave, Paul Read, Caleb McDonald, and Holley Hart. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Golden Funeral Home. The family requests that all memorials be made to Bartholomew Methodist Church c/o Rev. Jo Ann Sims.
