Mrs. Ford, born October 25, 1914 in Lonoke, AR and longtime resident of Bastrop, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 8, 2012 in Houston, TX.
Never idle, Ida started her working career at the tender age of 15, working for the Salvation Army with a cousin in Florida. At 18, she worked at the bag plant at the International Paper Company. She later helped in the WWII war effort, making flannel coats. She was an excellent seamstress which helped to support her family. Ida sold home products for Stanley and received many outstanding service awards including the coveted Ruby Award for outstanding sales performance. She later retired after working numerous years for United Life Insurance Agency.
A devout christian, Ida was a shining example of pure love-always sensitive to the needs of others, and lending support to the underdog whenever possible. A leader, and active member of the First Church of God, Ida served as President of the Women's Missionary Society for several years, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and helped with the church camp at Pollock. She also served on the Building Committee and was always ready to volunteer, ministering to countless individuals in the community.
Ida loved her two boys, Harold and Freddy. She spent her entire life devoted to the care of her son Freddy, who was the light of her life. Most people in Bastrop fondly remember Freddy clutching his trusty harmonica while Ida toted him around Bastrop in her daily routine.
Ida was a prolific cook and spent many a day canning vegetables and jellies. Nearly every family visit included a pot of her vegetable soup, her infamous chocolate cake and delicious fried chicken. Ida loved nature and all of God's creatures and was an avid gardener. She was a blessing to all.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Winton Harold Ford; son, Frederick Morris Ford and twelve brothers and sisters.
Ida is survived by her son, Harold Ford and his wife Linda; her grandchildren, Debra Ford and her husband Don Hutson, Evan Ford and his wife Renee, Laura Eaton and her husband Dennis; great grandchildren, Evan Ford, Cole Ford, Anthony and Michael Eaton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
