Graveside funeral services for Mr. Van E. Lee, Sr., age 93, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Jim Ingram officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 1 - 2 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Lee, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007. He was a retired drug store owner having retired in 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bastrop and one of the founding members of the Morehouse Country Club Couples Club. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1935 with a degree in chemistry. He was head chemist for International Paper Company before opening his own pharmacy. He was the former owner of the Louisiana Hotel. Mr. Lee was one of the first to recruit doctors to Bastrop, among them being Dr. Cox and Dr. Pollard. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bardin Lee and granddaughter, Anna Lee. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Van Lee, Jr. & wife Pam of Bastrop, Bill Lee & wife Cathy of Covington, LA; sister-in-law, Laurie Cunningham of Hot Springs, AR; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Wier & husband Jeff of Dallas, TX, and William Lee, Jr. of Mandeville, LA. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Don Sims, Walter Moore, Jerry Jones, Bobby Jones, Shawn Ouellette, Derek Lee Ouellette, Clint Shepard, and Jimmy Wright. The family of Mr. Lee would like to thank Dr. Cox, Jerry Harris of Harris Personal Care, and his faithful caregivers, Helen Robinson, Doris Wilson, and Tommy Brandon.
